SUMMARY:Julie Oxenforth's Totemic exhibition at The Ropewalk
DESCRIPTION:Julie  recycles found objects\, images and various materials to produce curious phenomena and new narratives. Trusting the process she focuses on the dynamics of form and space\, colour\, line and movement. Julie graduated from Sunderland University in 2005 with a distinction in MA Fine Art. Here\, her tutor described her as a Swiss roll; by osmosis her experiences\, environment and multiple interests are rolled up into one whole installation or body of work. With a neuro-divergent mind leaping about in different directions\, she is constantly seeking connections flowing through seemingly disparate thoughts and themes. Some of the objects she has collected were found in Egypt\, a place where she lived\, worked and exhibited for 7 years. Others are from house clearance of the parental home\, loaded with significance\, memory and loss. \nShe has exhibited in numerous groups shows\, and created solo installations in gallery and off-site spaces\, often in deprived areas\, in the UK and Egypt. She was a member of an artist collective Caravan in Egypt for several consecutive years\, resulting in her artwork being sited at The British Council in Cairo. This exhibition serves as a culmination of the last 5 years spent as a Ropewalk studio artist. \n

SUMMARY:Table Loom Weaving with Agnis Smallwood at The Ropewalk
DESCRIPTION:Spend a relaxing day weaving on a table and making your own scarf or snood or a table runner. Each participant will have their own eight shaft table loom to use for the session. The loom will be threaded up ahead of the workshop\, so you can enjoy weaving for a full day. There will be an opportunity to incorporate a range of techniques and weave structures as well as choosing the yarns that you use\, from a range of colours\, textures and fibres. Participants will learn all the skills needed through group demonstrations as well as one-to-one support throughout the day. \nThis workshop is suitable for beginners\, and all equipment and materials are provided for use during the workshop. Participants are welcome to bring along additional yarn to use within their project if they wish but this is not essential as plenty of yarn will be available to use. \nAdditional Information: \nSome participants can find weaving all day quite a physical activity. Participants often stand to use the looms though sitting is also an option. \n

SUMMARY:Sax on Sunday at Ropery Hall with David Bowie jnr
DESCRIPTION:These guys met more than 40 years ago at Leeds College of Music and have been best buddies ever since. Dave plays in The Snake Davis Band\, Alligator Shoes and Burden of Paradise. \nThere will be vocals\, saxes\, flutes\, whistles\, double bass and a wonderful collection of songs ranging from The Coasters through Marvin Gaye\, Smokey Robinson\, jazz standards\, to Tina Turner.  We don’t know what they’ll play\, neither do they\, but anticipate a broad range of styles and confusing banter. \nA powerful collection of songs ranging from deeply emotional to bouncy and light-hearted. \n
