SUMMARY:Michael Scott: Of Men and Work exhibition at The Ropewalk
DESCRIPTION:Michael Scott’s (1946-2006) paintings are held in private collections throughout the world and in public collections including Ferens Gallery. He grew up in the Hessle Road area of Hull after the family moved there from Peterhead when he was ten. His father worked for over 20 years as a labourer in Broady’s\, a pipework and ship repairers based at the Fish Dock. Michael spent his holidays as a university student working alongside his dad. The paintings in this exhibition show how the camaraderie and dignity of the workers affected him deeply when he turned to painting some years later. \nThe exhibition in the Artspace is open every Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm and on Sundays and Bank Holidays from 10am to 4pm.  Admission is free \n

SUMMARY:Gather: Winter-Winter - Linda Ingham
DESCRIPTION:This body of work arose from Linda’s eighteen-month plus engagement with three nature reserves\, supported by funds from the Arts\nCouncil England. The National Reserve at Far Ings and the RSPB Blacktoft Sands Reserve provided a wealth of inspiration through very different formations of habitat; Far Ings at Barton developing out of the clay pits that provided materials for brick and tiles\, and RSPB Blacktoft Sands\, at the confluence of the Humber\, Ouse and Trent\, a wildflower meadow newly formed from an ex-arable field. Observation of botany and habitat meets consideration of location and place throughout the work which is added to by a series of pieces developed from a microresidency at RSPB Saltholme – a reserve which again grows out of industry by the Tees Estuary.  The exhibition can be seen in Gallery One from Monday to Saturday between 10am and 5pm and on Sundays and Bank Holidays from 10am to 4pm.  Admission is free \n
